Now I have to start over.

Using polycrylic over chalk paint.

I used it on our dining table over chalk paint and.
A fresh coat of paint gives wood furniture a brand new look but the type of paint you choose can make or break the project.
Chalk paint is thick and requires less coats of paint.

The new paint I used is definitely a chalk-based paint and not a normal paint I have been to several training sessions led by Amy Howard on how to apply One Step Paint and what it is.
I will be posting it soon.
Use a non-yellowing water based poly like Minwax Polycrylic or Zinseer Ultimate Polyurthane to seal it.

I like it because it goes on like a dream and can be cleaned up with soap and water.
Once the primer has dried shake the spray paint for at least 1 minute before removing the lid.
Options to seal chalk paint.

I would personally not recommend it for the intense wear and tear a kitchen table will get daily.
But using a NON-water based topcoat means yellowing over timenot good for the many white pieces I do.
All my research into this product prior to use stated it would not affect the color by any way and is used to top coat seal indoor furniture.

I learned my.
I did clean my cabinets before I painted them the first time around and the paint adhered perfectly.

My first thought would be to put two coats of clear polycrylic over top of the cabinets after youre done painting.
You have changed the furniture painting gameLets be real youve changed the painting game in generalIm so excited to share HOW I create that chalky paint finish and all the things I know about chalk paintWhether youre new to the chalk paint game or a seasoned DIYer I hope you will gain a little insight and knowledge on how to chalk paint furniture.
As a matter of fact Ive chalk painted many furniture pieces over the years.

Use a matte finish.
It is completely clear and does not have a yellow tint like oil based polyurethane.
Applied final coat of Minwax Polycrylic.

Trust me its worth the wait.
Thanks Connie Since the paint is IntExt porch and floor enamel it does not need a poly sealer.
Use a Roller for application and apply in one stroke to avoid damaging the paint.

The official instructions never mention use on paint only over stains.
Chalk paint will hide heavily grained wood like oak.
I find wax to NOT be terribly durable.

Although polycrylic does better than any other topcoat in humidity it makes your job so much harder because it takes forever to dry.
Proper preparation is also important in getting an attractive and durable finish.
If you cant avoid painting in humid weather give it plenty of time to dry between coats and dont paint over wet spots.

If painted over already sealed wood tannins of the wood will not seep into the white paint causing brownish stains.
Tip 3 Make the DIY chalk paint in small batches.
Today Im sharing how I paint a piece of furniture using chalk paint from start to finish.

I dont want to wax.
The key here is finding the right type of paint to use like chalk paint or chalky style paint.
Thinner coats of paint dry faster.

I tried it when I chalk painted my dining room table and the texture became clumpy.
Applied 1st coat of Minwax Polycrylic Matte.
Chalk paint dries quickly.

The Chalk paint dries fairly quickly and is ready to seal within hours please see specific tin for details the main thing you need to consider when applying a varnish over chalk paint is not to over work the varnish as it will cause the paint to come away.
I will be using crafts paint and poly to do my mudroom floor.
I am scared to try water based polyurethane.

I chalk painted an antique desk and here I refurbished a bookcase with chalky spray paint.
Theres no need to prime.
This is a fairly newer piece of furniture so the water in the chalk paint didnt trigger any bleed through.

Polycrylic what I used and I believe to be durable.
Using chalk paint does not mean you have to distress or make a piece look old.
Sand the table first to rough up the finish a hand sanding block with.

Not sure what to do now.
Even reviews online by others said it could be used in this way.
It is durable just the way it is.

Polycrylic creates a durable finish and is great for surfaces that are very frequently used such as desks kids furniture and tables.
Unfinished Wood Water-based latex paint with a gloss or semi-gloss sheen works best.
If you wanted to poly over paint especially if you stenciled a design on it I would not use gloss paint but a flat or satin.

Some have reported yellowing over time.
Apply a light coat of spray paint to the furniture using even strokes.
OK so I started a project with chalk paint and as I was prepping to seal I came to the realization that it wasnt what I wantedI thought chalk paint was the only wayI lightly but it took a while sanded the credenza used the Zinsser BIN primershellac and did 3 coats of chalky paint hopeful that the polycrylic would give me the.

I might test the Krylon clear spray paint.
The homemade chalk paint with plaster of Paris dries pretty dang quick.
Other articles said using a water-based topcoat over chalk paint will naturally result in streaks because the nature of the chalk paint sucked the WB topcoat in so quickly and therefore unevenly.

So my mistake for using white chalk paint underneath of this.
Be aware of this if using white chalk paint.
So it is best used when you dont want a yellowish colored layer over your furniture and more so over light colored paint.

My product preferences have evolved a bit since this was written so I have updated this post to reflect those changes.
The best paint depends on how you use the furniture and the type of finish or style you want to achieve.
